HCU (High Care Unit)

High Care Unit (HCU)

Rehabilitation at the HCU of Attica Rehabilitation & Recovery Center begins with a comprehensive evaluation by the interdisciplinary team, followed by the development of a tailored treatment plan. Therapies are provided within the HCU or, if the patient’s condition permits, in specially designated areas with direct access to the HCU.

Physiotherapy Interventions May Include:

  • Respiratory Physiotherapy: Aimed at preventing atelectasis and clearing the tracheobronchial tree.
  • Inhalatory Muscle Exercise to support breathing.
  • Kinesiotherapy: Movement therapy aimed at restoring mobility and function.
  • Mobilization to enhance joint function and reduce bed rest complications.
  • Orthostatic Therapy: Standing with the use of specialized equipment.
  • Functional Retraining to regain the ability to perform daily activities.

Additional Interventions DuringHospitalization:

  • Pressure Ulcer Prevention Protocols: Daily assessment and documentation of the healing process of any pressure ulcers.
  • Use of Ultrasound Technology for removing necrotic tissue and Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC) for wound closure and healing. Body mass composition analysis for nutritional assessment and tracking the patient’s progress.
  • Regular Multidisciplinary Team Meetings to assess patient progress, set new goals, and introduce further interventions.
  • Daily Family Support, Education, and Guidance to involve families in the rehabilitation process and improve the patient’s home recovery.

Use of Specialized Equipment:

  • Breathing Exerciser Devices with resistance or threshold pressure.
  • Electrotherapy Device with neuromuscular electrical stimulation programs.
  • Active-Passive Bike for Upper and Lower Limbs to assist with movement and strengthen muscles.
  • Patient Transfer Lift for safe patient handling.
  • Orthostatic Tilt Table for aiding in standing up and supporting orthostatic rehabilitation.
